On Monday, President Trump welcomed El Salvador’s president—who proudly refers to himself as the “world’s coolest dictator”—to the Oval Office. The mutual admiration between the two was unmistakable, as they exchanged praise and warm gestures. Trump, who seems to hold disdain for nearly everyone, consistently reserves his affection for authoritarian strongmen like Bukele, Putin, and Hungary’s Viktor Orbán.
Trump’s own former top general, Mark Milley, and former Chief of Staff John Kelly, warned the country that Trump was a fascist. Tragically, far too many chose not to heed their warnings.
