Earlier this year (as reported by ProPublica), doctors at VA hospitals were basically lighting their hair on fire, sending panicked emails to Washington like, “Hey! These massive budget cuts are literally shutting down life-saving cancer trials!” The internal emails from the VA revealed that, thanks to the cuts, thousands of veterans may lose access to clinical trials for things like metastatic head and neck cancer, kidney disease, and traumatic brain injuries.
