A gleaming, custom gold Rolex desk clock sits beside a specially engraved gold bar: a matched set from Swiss luxury executives who showed up at the White House, smiled for the cameras, and walked away with their country’s tariffs slashed from 39 percent to 15 percent a week later. The gifts were described as “symbolic gestures of friendship.” The trade relief that followed was described as “a great new dynamic in our bilateral relations.” Call it whatever you like. The rest of us can see what it is.
