Texas is in political limbo as the U.S. Supreme Court weighs whether the state’s new congressional map—drawn by Republicans this summer—will stand for the 2026 elections. A lower federal court ruled the map was an unconstitutional racial gerrymander, blocking it and reviving the old 2021 districts. But the Supreme Court quickly paused that ruling, plunging candidates, incumbents, and election officials into chaos with the filing deadline just days away. The stakes are enormous: five House seats, and potentially control of Congress, hang in the balance.
