If you squint hard enough, you might mistake Donald Trump’s latest meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky for diplomacy. The smiles were there, the handshakes happened, and Trump even refrained from publicly humiliating the Ukrainian president for the first time in months. But beneath the staged cordiality in Mar-a-Lago, something far more troubling was at work: the unmistakable imprint of Vladimir Putin’s worldview, echoed, laundered, and repeated by the President of the United States.
