Donald Trump spent nearly $15 million to turn the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool “American Flag Blue.” Within days, it turned green.
If that sounds familiar, it’s because it perfectly summarizes the Trump presidency.
The president boasted for weeks about his renovation of the Reflecting Pool, portraying himself as the only man capable of accomplishing the impossible task of making water look blue. Previous presidents had failed. Bureaucrats had failed. Experts had failed. But Trump had solved the problem through the power of patriotism, dark paint, and government contracts. Then nature intervened. According to satellite data, the pool experienced one of its worst June algae blooms in years almost immediately after reopening.
