Someone who thinks they can prove they haven't done anything wrong by doing something wrong probably hasn't thought it through very well. It's also true that perhaps those who do this aren't trying to convince everyone. It is enough for them to try to win back those they are losing among their own people. It remains to be seen whether these “stupid people,” as their own leader has called them, will settle for such a questionable strategy, which would only confirm that they are indeed what their own leader says they are, or worse: accomplices to scandalous child abusers and their cover-up.
