Joe Biden needed a win and the infrastructure bill gives him that, but progressive Democrats gave up valuable leverage by uncoupling its passage from the Build Back Better social-spending bill. Now centrist Democratic Senators Manchin and Sinema and Senate Republicans are free to shred Build Back Better as they see fit.
