As we have learned from more than one documentary, breaking away from a cult is very difficult for its members. (Especially when they don't even want to accept that they are in a cult.) But when, within that cult, they begin to excuse or accept behaviors that the cult was supposed to counteract, then the time comes when its members must rethink whether their values were real or whether they have become what they claimed to fight against.
